Green Lake Job fair
Teen workers are the target of a job fair in Green Lake. The job fair made it easier for small firms to hire summer workers. As part of a field trip, students from nearby school districts attended the event.
Many businesses throughout Wisconsin, from the largest cities to the smallest communities, are constantly in need of part-time employees as the summer months approach.
This is particularly true in places like Green Lake that cater primarily to tourists. But according to some industry people, it can be difficult to find that kind of skill.
The Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce employs a novel strategy to match young people seeking employment with open vacancies.
It has hosted an employment fair named Hire Me Now for the last three years.
Students in grades 8 through 12 attend the fair. It is intended primarily for companies who are wanting to hire young people on a part-time basis.
A local grocery store, golf clubs, and summer camps all had booths at the most recent event.
15-year-old Benjamin Edwards is a freshman at Green Lake High. Along with a few classmates, he came looking for summer employment.
At the event, Edwards spoke with a number of possible employers. Speaking with them one-on-one, he added, made a big difference.
Being involved with the folks directly is kind of great, Edwards remarked. You gain some further knowledge about the positions. Consequently, you have the opportunity to converse with employees while you are here.
Companies stated that they also appreciate having one-on-one meetings with candidates. In neighboring Ripon, Renee Saul shares ownership of Sweet and Salty, an ice cream shop and confectionery business.
Saul stated that having an adequate number of summer employees is crucial; for this reason, she mentioned that she enjoys meeting possible hires.
"It is fantastic to be able to meet them in person instead of someone just running in, grabbing an application and filling it out and then meeting with them later," said Saul. "We are looking to hire a whole bunch."
Presentations on career and interview skills were also included in the program.
Just giving them the opportunity to practice these skills matters a lot, according to Angie Evans of the Green Lake Area Chamber of Commerce, who planned the event.
Evans remarked, "There is so much they can learn, even though they are so young." "You represent that company with your appearance and demeanor. Therefore, we believe it is crucial information for the pupils to acquire.
The Hire Me Now expo is available as a field trip for students in a number of Green Lake and Fond du Lac County school districts, allowing them to go without missing a day of instruction. - WISCONSIN
